Original Oil Colour Study “へいおん” - Heion

“I'm happy to share this new piece with you. This is an A3 oil study featuring a playful composition characterised by loose yet precise brushwork.

The painting is titled “へいおん” - Heion - a Japanese word meaning tranquil; calm; restful; peaceful; quiet.

This word feels particularly fitting for this piece, as the horse’s moment of interaction with the butterfly suggests a moment of stillness within the work, where they enjoy each other’s presence for a short time.

This work is part of a new collection where I’m exploring joy, spontaneity, and the small moments that happen when we stop holding back or take notice of our surroundings. I’ve been thinking a lot about presence, connection, and play in my practice at the moment.”

Painted on 30 X 40cm Jackson’s Art Aluminium Panel which has been specially treated so they can be used across a range of mediums, and offer a stable, archival quality.
